Concept art- Morgoth and Utumno

Still plugging away at page two of the comic, so in the meantime, have some concept art!

Morgoth is a tough character for me to draw, since in my head he’s weirdly nebulous in shape but specific in expression. I imagine he had a similar silhouette as Melkor, but made of fire and light, with cherubic curls and fewer sharp edges; then when he fell, he got all drippy and shadowy and pointy (and adorable). <3
His crown is a crude assemblage of broken swords. Don’t think I drew that clearly enough… :

I picture Utumno as being a blend of giant-sized architecture blending into the natural shape of the mountains. The pillared structure up above is just the entrance (and I guess audience chamber) of the fortress, and the rest is underground, lit by lava.
